Greetings from a Grasshopper

I meet a grasshopper this week in my garden. Seems to be an end-of-the-summer type of thing. The meeting didn’t last long before he bid me farewell and flew away…kind of like how summer has gone by so quickly. Until next summer…  

Eating Like a Bird

Also enjoying the yellow daisies in my garden, like the honey bee, are many beautiful American goldfinches. Here’s one having some lunch.  

Camouflage Dragonfly

I found a red dragonfly taking cover from the rain on a brick ledge. S/he blends in so well and reminds me of one I made friends with a few years back.  

Hungry Honey Bee

Enjoying the yellow daisies in my garden, I saw a friendly honey bee stopping for a bite to eat.  

Firecracker Flower

The orange flowers on my aloe succulent plant are really blooming quickly. Part of the set with the little bloom from last week, is this one, which kind of reminds me of a firecracker. Happy Independence Day!  

Summer’s Starting with a Twist

So it’s officially summer now and mine has started off with a twist. Instead of echeveria flowers beginning the blooming race, it’s the the soon-to-be-tall, orange flowers on my other succulent plant that’s off to a great start. The Humble Hummingbird

I finally got a photo of a new visitor, a friendly and very quick hummingbird who has been visiting me for some time now. What a great way to end off the summer and my photo blog. See you next time!  

Perching Sparrow?

I woke up to find two little birds sitting in the tree across from my window. Here’s a close-up of one. I think they are sparrows, but not sure. Regardless, it was great to meet them.  

Fury Fern Fiddlehead

I found a little fern fiddlehead growing in my garden.  

Magenta Penstemons

I’m enjoying seeing so many beautiful penstemon flowers around this summer. Here’s a bunch in magenta.  

Walking by Some Mushrooms

I took a quick snapshot of these mushrooms while on a walk. The larger one was very striking with the way the light was shining off of it, which was, of course, magnified further by the camera.  

Wasp Visiting a Rose

I found a wasp flying around some roses. He was pretty fast, but I was able to snap this photo as he enjoyed the rose.  

Heavenly Light

Here’s a snapshot of a beautiful sky with light opening through it that I saw one evening on my way home from work.  

Magenta Geranium

Some other flowering plants in my garden include a beautiful magenta geranium.  

Echeveria Flowers

There are now lots of little flower buds on the ever-growing echeveria stem.  

Flying to the Flowers

On a recent outing, I found a wasp flying about in a bunch of penstemon flowers. It was interesting to watch her/him travel around.  

Orange You Glad to Have a Companion?

The other succulent plant’s flowers have arrived and are starting to bloom. They are a beautiful orange/coral color with accents of yellow. A perfect companion to the pink and yellow echeveria flowers.  

Ladybug Landing

During a lovely lunchtime picnic with a friend, a lucky visitor stopped by and hitched a ride on my shoe. Here’s a quick snapshot.  

Blooming Buds

I can’t get enough of the echeveria flowers, which recently started to bloom! They are so vibrant. Looks like the other succulent next to this one also has flowers on the way. Stay tuned.

My hen and chick succulent has flowers! Apparently they are called echeveria flowers. So beautiful!  

Sweet Summer Start

Happy Memorial Day! Summer’s off to a sweet start with raspberries growing in my little garden. I’m looking forward to enjoying them when they ripen fully…hopefully soon.

The Baby Bunny’s Back!

Lo and behold, look who came to visit this week…I think it is the baby bunny. Remember this little one from July? I think it’s the same rabbit. S/he sat in the same spot in the yard for about five hours. I am so glad that our yard is worth coming back to.  

Green Grasshopper

After Irene

I’m very lucky to report that this was the only damage done during Hurricane Irene. I have to admit that this old lattice was already very brittle and it turned out that the heavy morning glories were stronger that it. My heart goes out to all the people who have suffered due to this storm. [...]
